Description

Turned three-quarters on, an elephant stands unadorned with its tail hanging in a carved tuft. Its ears are spread and folded, its trunk hangs and curls forward, and it carries no cloth or harness at all. The tusks are a pale stone against the olive body, and could not be more visibly separate. It stands on a thin pale slab with a plain bevelled edge. Olive-tan marble mottled with brown clouding, its slab a separate pale grey-white stone. One animal is what this price supplies.

Placing the Clouding

This stone is heavily mottled - broad brown clouds drifting through an olive-tan ground - and there is no orientation of the block that avoids them. What can be chosen is where they land. A dark cloud across the eye reads as damage and kills the face; the same cloud across the shoulder or the fall of an ear reads as the animal's own hide and improves it, because a real elephant's skin is not one colour either. So the block is turned and wetted until the heaviest clouding falls on the body and the ears with the head left comparatively clear, and the animal is laid out from where the clouding falls rather than from the block's own square corners.

Under two tonnes, and light enough for an ordinary floor without a thought - a hall, a landing, an orangery, a wide conservatory, as readily as a terrace. Indoors is also where the mottling shows properly; outdoors in bright light the browns and olives flatten toward one tone. At 150cm this is the smallest elephant here, and the only one an ordinary floor takes. Its pale slab is a separate stone and reads as a base rather than as part of the animal, which suits a floor where a coloured plinth would look intrusive.

The One That Fits Indoors

Sixteen to eighteen weeks. Choosing where the darker clouding lands on the animal precedes the first cut entirely. The pale slab is cut and bevelled separately, then the animal roughed standing on it, legs kept as heavy columns. The barrel, the ears and the hanging trunk are shaped after that, the ears taken thin towards the end. The tail and its carved tuft are freed after the hindquarters are finished. Tusk sockets are bored last and the pale tusks seated into them, and the animal is bedded dry onto its slab. The animal takes no pin and no filler, and its slab is bedded dry beneath it. Near 1,969kg animal and slab together, gantry-borne and bedded onto a prepared pad. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
