Smoked Glass & Mauve Resin Knot Round Table - 85cm
Smoked Glass & Mauve Resin Knot Round Table - 85cm $3,37300
Description

A round coffee table in smoked glass and tinted resin. The top is a disc of smoked tempered glass, grey and clear, with a polished edge. Beneath it sits a knot of cast resin rings in a smoky mauve, each a closed band of even round section, threaded through one another so that no single ring can be followed round without passing behind another. The knot touches the floor at four points and the glass at three.

A Knot Dense Enough to Lose the Individual Ring

The base is the whole object and its interest is in how much it hides. Two rings under a table would read as a legible figure, but this many knotted together do not: each band passes behind others before it returns, so the eye starts on a ring and loses it. Because the resin is translucent and quite deeply coloured, every crossing doubles the mauve and goes a stop darker, and the middle of the knot is therefore the densest and darkest part of the piece while the outer curves stay pale. Above it the smoked glass adds a second veil, so the knot seen through the top is a tone greyer than the knot seen from the side, and the two readings sit one inside the other. The rings meet the glass at three points only, which leaves most of the top unsupported to the eye.

As a coffee table it needs to be walked around and looked down into, so the middle of a seating group serves it and a wall does not. The glass takes trays and glasses and keeps the base in view. A plain pale floor is worth having under it, because the knot's own shadow is part of the figure and a patterned rug reads straight through both the glass and the rings. Light from one side picks out the crossings; overhead light flattens the knot into a single mass. Indoors only.

How Many Rings, and How Dark the Glass Runs

Standard pieces take 3–4 weeks and bespoke commissions 5–6. Begin with how many rings: two would read as a diagram, the number here reads as a knot, and more again would close up into a solid mass. The section of the band is the second, from this even round through to a flattened oval that catches a broader highlight. The glass is the third, from this smoke through to a clear disc that lets the mauve read at full strength, or a bronze that warms it. Ring colour and glass diameter are quoted together. Base and glass travel in two crates and the top beds onto the knot on site. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Rings knotted past easy reading make this base an apt piece for our abstract sculptures; the tinted casting also counts among our resin sculptures, and the table itself among our art furniture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
