Description

Back on its haunches an elephant sits, trunk curled high and front feet upon a stack of coins. Its mouth is open and the trunk arches right over the head. A fringed cloth with a scalloped edge and one hanging tassel covers shoulder and back. Beneath is a pedestal banded with lotus lobes above and below a frieze of rosettes and scrolling foliage. Brilliant white marble, the faintest grey drift only, polished to a soft sheen. One animal alone is what this price buys; two sit well together.

A Trunk Carried as an Arch

The trunk on this elephant leaves the face, rises over the top of the head and comes down behind it - an arch of stone with air on both sides and the head passing through it. That is a bridge, and a bridge cannot be repaired: since nothing sits behind an arch to cut back into if it goes.. So the whole arch is left as a solid mass of waste stone joining trunk to skull through the entire carving, and the animal is finished around it. Only when the body, the cloth and the pedestal are complete and the piece will not be turned again is the waste taken out - from both sides alternately, a little at a time, so the arch never carries a one-sided load.

At 130cm and a little over a tonne this sits comfortably indoors as well as out: a hall, a reception, a landing, a shop entrance, a courtyard. It is also the piece here that most rewards close quarters - the coin stack under the front feet, the fringed cloth and the tassel are all small work. At 130cm the seated animal is waist-high, close enough for the coins to be counted. Give the raised trunk clear air above it; set under a low soffit or a stair the arch reads as cramped and the whole gesture is lost. Brilliant white wants something dark behind it.

Small Enough to Come Indoors

Fourteen to sixteen weeks. Blocking out the raised trunk as a solid arch opens the work, and it stays solid until almost the end. The pedestal is cut, its lobe bands and frieze worked, and the bed dressed flat. The animal is roughed seated on its own block, the trunk arch left solid, and the haunches and folded legs brought to shape. The coin stack under the front feet is cut as part of the same block. The fringed cloth and its tassel are undercut next. The trunk arch is opened last, from both sides alternately. Animal and pedestal alike take no pins, no dowels and no fillers at any point. Near 1,282kg, the lightest here, which a gantry will bed onto a prepared footing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Seated beasts are few within animal sculptures, and indoor-scale work sits in indoor sculptures.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
