Description

Upright on its haunches a lion roars, one forepaw set upon a sphere at the front of its cap. The mane is combed into long waves that sweep off the brow and drop into a deep fringe at the chest, and the tail curls round the haunch. Beneath it is a moulded pedestal with a projecting cap and a stepped base. The stone is a honey-tan beige marble carrying grey-brown veining in broad diagonal bands. A single lion with its pedestal is what this price covers.

A Ball Set Right at the Edge

The sphere on this lion is not tucked in beside the animal - it sits out at the very front of the cap, with its outer face standing beyond the moulding below. That changes what the ball is doing. On a piece where the sphere sits inboard, the stone underneath carries it and the carver can undercut freely. Here the ball overhangs, so its underside is left uncut and generous where it meets the cap, and the join is deliberately not opened into a shadow even though a shadow would look better. The paw above it is then worked to sit convincingly on a ball that is thicker at the bottom than the eye expects, which is where the skill in it lies.

The grey-brown veining in this stone runs in broad diagonals, and diagonals read as movement, so the piece is livelier than a plain white lion and busier too. Give it a quiet setting: plain render, a brick wall, a dark hedge, gravel. Against patterned paving or variegated planting the veining and the background compete and the carving is the loser. At 145cm on its pedestal the roaring head sits near eye level, which suits a threshold or the head of a short flight better than an open lawn. Honey marble warms under low sun and goes flat in overhead light.

Veining That Runs Across the Bands

Fifteen to seventeen weeks. Squaring and moulding the pedestal comes before anything else, and the animal is then blocked out sitting upon its finished cap. The sphere is left as a cube at the cap's front corner while the seated mass above it is roughed, so there is square stone to measure from. The mane comes next. Mane locks are divided starting at the outermost and travelling in towards the neck. The chest fringe is undercut once the rest of it stands clear. The ball is brought to round in stages, checked against a cardboard template cut to the finished radius, and the paw is cut down onto it in the same sessions so the two arrive at each other. The open jaw and its teeth are the last of the animal, reached through the mouth itself. Neither figure nor pedestal carries a pin, a dowel or a filler of any kind. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Some 1,779kg for a single lion and pedestal, needing a crane and a footing of poured concrete.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
