Roaring Lion on a Panelled Plinth Marble - 190cm $30,31400
Description

A European lion stands four-square and roars, the mane cut in deep flowing locks, on a naturalistic rock-cut ground slab. That slab is raised in turn on a tall moulded rectangular plinth with a recessed panel to each face, and cloudy honey veining runs across every panel.

A Rock Cut Slab on a Panelled Plinth

This marble is heavily figured and the plinth is where that shows, so the four panels are laid out from the block before a single moulding is run: the veining is read, the faces are chosen, and the recesses are set out so the figure in the stone runs across each panel rather than stopping at a corner. Cut without that step the plinth looks like four unrelated slabs. The lion above is worked from a quieter part of the same block, where the figure runs to a paler cream with less of the honey in it.

The plinth lifts a standing lion to head height, which suits an entrance, a stair head, a formal terrace or the end of a walk where it is approached rather than passed. Honey marble reads warm against brick and stone and cold against white render, so the backdrop matters more here than the aspect. The plinth needs a prepared level pad rather than lawn.

Reading the Veining Before Cutting

Fifteen weeks. The plinth panels are laid out to the veining before any moulding is cut, because a face chosen wrongly cannot be re-chosen. The ground slab is worked to look broken rather than sawn, then the lion is carved standing on it as one piece with it. The mane is freed last. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 4,002kg in two pieces, craned on and bedded onto a level prepared pad.

Figures raised on plinths are in animal sculptures; the largest sit under large garden statues.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
