A bird with both wings up and swept back, as though it had just landed. The breast is full and plain, the tail is short and fanned, and the feet grip a small polished metal disc. The resin is a translucent red that deepens through the body and brightens where the wings thin toward their trailing edges.
Two raised wings on a small bird put the mass high and behind the feet, so the piece wants to tip backward, and the answer is in the disc rather than in the bird: the metal is heavy for its size and the feet are set forward of the centre so the load falls inside the footprint. The bird is cut to sit on that disc and nothing else. The wings themselves are the slow passage. Each is thinned from the underside so the upper surface keeps its curve, and the trailing edges are cut as a fine serration that has to match wing for wing, because the two are seen together from behind and any difference reads as damage.
At 28cm this is a desk or windowsill piece, and the disc means it can go straight onto a polished surface with nothing under it. It reads from behind and from the side, where the wings separate, and closes up from the front. Set it where light comes past rather than down: the thin trailing edges glow and the body stays solid. On a dark surface the metal disc disappears and the bird looks as though it has landed on nothing.
Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. Colour is open at order: this red, an amber, a green, a blue or a colourless body, or a solid opaque bird where the light should not pass through. The wings are made raised as here, half open or folded, and the disc comes in this polished metal, in black stone, or the bird is made without it to stand on its own feet. Sizes go up to a garden bird. It arrives boxed with each wing supported and the disc packed separately; lift the bird under the breast, never by a wing. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A bird just landed on a metal disc belongs with our bird sculptures; a full breast and a fanned tail lead to our animal sculptures, and polished metal under red resin joins our metal sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
