It is an hourglass in plum-tinted acrylic. A flaring dish sits above, ribbed in fine concentric rings that run out to the rim, and below it a wide flat flange narrows down to a small foot. The plum goes almost black where the flange is deepest and opens to a clear rose across the ribbing.
The ribbing is turned into the mould face and runs true in concentric rings out to the rim, and the pitch does not open up where the dish flares. The waist is the thinnest part of the piece and the part that decides whether the casting is sound. The flange below is polished on both faces, top and underside, since a wide flat flange on a pale floor shows everything beneath it, and the small foot is worked last so the piece stands without a rock.
Beside an armchair it serves as a table, or it holds a lamp on its own, and the wide flange keeps it from tipping when something is set down off centre. Light coming in low across the rings is what makes them read, so a lamp to one side does more for it than a downlight overhead. The flange also keeps it clear of a skirting, so it can stand tight against a wall without the dish touching.
From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. Most of it is the concentric ribbing. Three things are yours to choose. The ribbing can be turned at a coarser or a finer pitch, the plum can be replaced with another tint, and the flange can be made narrower. Dish diameter and overall height are cut to your figures. Every piece in a single order is worked so the pitch of the concentric ribbing agrees. The crate is built so nothing touches the ribbed dish and the flange edge; two people take it from there. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
For plum acrylic ribbed in fine rings and drawn in to a waist, see our acrylic sculptures; its flange and flaring dish also suit our art furniture and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
