Orange Stepped Block Frosted Mass Resin Sculpture - 28cm
Orange Stepped Block Frosted Mass Resin Sculpture - 28cm $2,09200
Description

An orange mass built from stepped blocks under a rounded cap. Below the cap everything is rectangular, with square arrises and flat faces stepping out from one another, and the whole is frosted rather than polished so each face gives back a flat tone instead of a highlight. The blocks step down to a flat that carries it, and no stand comes with it.

Hard Steps Under a Soft Top

The whole piece turns on the disagreement between its two halves. Below, everything is rectangular: blocks stepping out from one another with square arrises and flat faces, which is a language of building. Above, the cap is a single soft curve with no edge anywhere on it. Put either on its own and the object is ordinary; put them together and each makes the other more obvious, so the steps read as harder and the cap as softer than they would apart. The frosting is what allows it. A polished surface would have returned a highlight along every arris and the stepped half would have become a set of bright lines; frosted, the light is held at the surface and each face returns an even value, so the steps are read as planes turning away from one another rather than as edges catching the light.

At 28cm it will sit happily on a bookshelf or a side table. The frosting means it does not need light behind it, which makes it easier to place than most of this group: it holds its form against a wall, in an alcove or on a shaded shelf. A light from one side is still worth having, since it gives each stepped face a different value and the staircase reads more clearly than under a flat wash.

The Steps, the Cap, and Delivery

Time separates the two: a bespoke commission takes 5–6 weeks, a standard piece 3–4. The steps are drawn deeper or fewer, the orange is deepened, and the cap is brought flatter. The block count is also drawn up or down, which changes the proportion of stepped body to cap that the piece is built on, and the mass is cast at other heights. A polished finish is offered and makes a brighter object that reads its steps less clearly, for the reason above. One crate takes it, resting on the flat at the foot with the cap boxed clear, and it is a one-person lift. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Blocks stepped under a cap is contemporary sculpture; the frosted orange is resin sculpture; and a frosted surface is indoor sculpture work.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
