Description

A mourning angel is collapsed forward over the cap of a tapered pedestal, her head and both arms laid along the top and her wings folded down her back. The front face of the pedestal carries a plain oval panel framed by a carved rose garland tied with a bow at the foot.

Mourning Angel Laid Over a Tapered Pedestal

A garland round an oval is the test of a carver here, because the roses have to keep an even weight all the way round a curve while the panel inside them stays dead flat for lettering. The blooms are cut proud and undercut back to their stems so the frame lifts off the face rather than sitting in it. The angel above is worked with her forearms hanging over the cap, which leaves the thinnest stone in the piece at her elbows, and that is cut last. The marble itself is a bright white with soft grey veining drifting through the pedestal faces.

A pedestal memorial of this height wants a full grave plot rather than a lawn marker: a parish churchyard, a municipal cemetery, a private family enclosure or a walled garden of remembrance. It reads from three sides, so leave ground clear behind rather than backing it onto a wall, and the burial authority will have its own ceiling on height and footprint, worth reading before you order.

What Goes Into the Oval Panel

Ten weeks. The pedestal is cut and its oval panel trued flat before the garland is started, and the garland before the figure, because each stage would damage the one before it if the order were reversed. The angel is fitted to the cap last. The oval reaches you blank and is cut to your own wording in a lettering style you settle on, or left plain for your own mason, and the bow can be left off. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Near 2,098kg in two pieces, craned into place on a poured foundation.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
