Description

A standing angel leans against a plain upright stele, one arm reaching across its top to lay a bunch of lilies on the far corner and the other hand raised to her head. Her gown falls the full height to the ground and her wings are folded down behind her.

Mourning Angel Leaning on a Lily Stele

The stele is deliberately the plainest thing in the piece, and keeping it that way is harder than carving it. Every line of the figure has to be arranged so that nothing crosses the face of the stone: the reaching arm passes above it, the gown falls to one side of it, and the lilies are massed on the corner where they break the outline without touching the field. The lilies are undercut so the stems read as separate. The antiqued surface carries a beige tone through its veining, warmer in the shadows than across the lit faces.

A stele memorial of this height belongs on a full grave plot in a churchyard, a cemetery, a family enclosure or a walled memorial garden. The antiqued surface settles into an older burial ground where the surrounding stones have already weathered, and looks out of place against new polished granite. Ask the burial ground what it permits on height, footprint and surface finish before you commit.

Why an Antiqued Finish Reads Differently

Twelve weeks. The stele is faced and trued first and the angel is then carved to lean against it, because the angle of her shoulder is set by where the top of the stone finishes and cannot be changed afterwards. The antiqued surface is worked over the whole piece at the end so figure and stele weather as one. The stele face arrives blank and takes your own wording in whichever lettering you settle on, or stays bare for a local mason. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 3,054kg, craned upright onto a poured foundation.

  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
