The Monumental Classical Mermaid and Child Bronze Sculpture stands at a commanding 400cm, presenting a mermaid rising upright from a richly detailed sea-creature base, arms extended forward in a ceremonial offering gesture as she presents an infant figure aloft. Her coiled fish-scale tail sweeps dramatically below while windswept hair streams behind her, the entire composition conveying both mythological weight and tender intention.
Produced using the traditional lost-wax casting method, every surface of this sculpture has been hand-finished to achieve the deep, weathered green-blue verdigris patina that speaks directly to centuries of coastal and maritime bronze tradition. Warmer bronze tones emerge naturally at the tail fin edges, creating tonal contrast that rewards close inspection. The sculpted base, depicting shells and sea creatures in relief, is cast as a continuous element rather than a separate plinth, ensuring compositional integrity at monumental scale. At 800kg, this is a sculpture engineered for permanence.
Given its scale and finish, this piece is suited to grand outdoor settings: formal gardens, coastal estates, waterfront terraces, hotel forecourts, and civic or institutional plazas. The verdigris patina integrates naturally with stone paving, dark slate, aged granite, and mature planting. Its visual mass and vertical presence make it a focal point for any open landscape composition where scale and sculptural drama are required.
We offer a full range of patina finishes including classic brown-bronze, black patina, and the signature weathered verdigris shown here. Scale modifications are available, and for collections or site-specific installations inspired by the work of classical figurative sculptors working in the maritime tradition, our studio team is available to discuss bespoke requirements in full. Please contact us before ordering if you require customisation or have site-specific installation questions.
