Matt Black Two Handled Vase Resin Sculpture, 41cm, with a rounded body and small loop handles at the shoulders, shown on a plain light grey background.
Matt Black Two Handled Vase Resin Sculpture - 41cm $3,10500
Description

A matt black vase with two small loop handles set high at the shoulders. The body swells from the foot and comes back in to a straight neck, and the two loops sit at the widest point on either side, drawn small and close in so that the profile rather than the handles stays the subject of the piece. It rests on a foot cast with the vessel, and no stand is supplied.

Two Handles That Set the Shoulder

The handles are not there to be held and their real job is to mark where the body stops. A vessel of this profile swells from the foot and comes back in to the neck, and without something at the transition the curve runs from bottom to top as one continuous sweep, which makes the piece read as a bottle. Put a loop at the widest point on each side and the eye divides the form in two: a body below and a neck above, meeting at a shoulder that is now a definite place rather than a gradual change. The loops are drawn small and close to the body for the same reason. Handles standing proud would become the subject, and this is a piece about a profile. Matt black is chosen because it gives no highlight to compete with the outline, so the silhouette is all there is and the shoulder reads from across a room.

At 41cm it stands well on a console or a floor-standing shelf, and it reads as a silhouette, so it wants a background lighter than it is. Against a dark wall the outline disappears and the two loops become the only visible part of the piece. It is a sculpture rather than a working vase and is not made for water. Standing it where it is seen side on rather than from above puts both handles in view at once.

The Handles, the Neck, and Delivery

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. The handles are drawn broader or left off, the neck is brought down, and the black is lifted to a deep grey. The neck is also brought down for a squatter profile, which changes the piece more than any other alteration offered on it, and the body is cast at other heights. A polished finish is made and works against the design, since highlights along the belly break the silhouette the matt surface is there to keep whole. It travels in one case bedded on the foot with both handles packed out, since the loops stand clear of the body and are the first thing a knock would find. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A vase with two small loops belongs with our art furniture; matt black resin leads to our resin sculptures, and a silhouette for a pale hallway joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
