Magenta & Yellow Windowed Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 50cm
Magenta & Yellow Windowed Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 50cm $2,57700
Description

An upright egg-shaped acrylic sculpture, wider at the shoulder than at its foot, cut into planes large enough that each holds one colour. Magenta and yellow fill the upper half. What happens below the middle is the point of it: the colour stops, and the lower planes are left almost colourless, a broad pale cyan plane at the centre with paler blue ones either side, windows through which the interior faces and the far side of the block can be seen.

Colour Above, Windows Below

Leaving the lower planes nearly clear is a decision about where the colour STOPS, and they are the hardest faces on the piece to bring off. A filmed plane forgives a great deal because the film carries the eye; a clear one shows every mark left by the working, and it also shows everything behind it, so the interior of the block has to be worth looking into. That means the faces behind the window are finished to the standard of an outside face even though nobody will touch them. The window is placed low, beneath the colour rather than among it, for a reason worth stating: set among the coloured planes a clear one reads as a hole in the composition, and set beneath them the clear planes read as a way in. The colour above them is left saturated so the contrast does the work.

At 50cm this is console, sideboard and cabinet-top work and it should be set at or a little below eye level, since the window only opens up when it is looked into rather than down on. It has to sit at chest height with nothing patterned behind it. Behind it, plain is essential: the window reads whatever is on the other side, so a patterned wall or a shelf of books appears inside the piece. The window needs its light from behind and slightly around, which lifts the interior faces out of the shadow the magenta throws over them.

The Window, the Order and What Arrives

Build times separate standard from bespoke: 3–4 weeks against 5–6. The window paces this build, because the faces behind it are finished to an outside standard and there are more of them than the outside has. The facet layout and where the clear planes fall are drawn per commission, so two windows, a window set high, or the whole piece made at hall scale can all be ordered. Three films are offered here - this magenta and yellow, a blue-to-violet, a green-to-cyan - and the window can be left frosted rather than clear for a softer reading. It is set down with no assembly, handled by its coloured planes so that the clear ones stay unmarked. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A block whose colour stops at its middle, leaving the lower planes as windows onto its interior, is entered under our geometric sculptures, our acrylic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
