Large Traditional Dragon-Headed Turtle Bronze Sculpture - 150cm $56,96000
Description

The Large Traditional Dragon-Headed Turtle Bronze Sculpture stands 150cm tall and presents one of Chinese mythology's most revered chimera forms: the longgui, a creature combining the grounded permanence of a tortoise body with the sovereign power of a dragon head. Cast at monument scale and weighing 800kg, this piece commands space with an authority that smaller decorative bronzes simply cannot achieve.

Cast Bronze, Hand-Finished

Produced using the lost-wax casting method, every surface detail of this sculpture has been individually worked by hand. The dark cast bronze base is overlaid with a heavy green verdigris patina across the shell, neck, and extremities, with blue-green tonal variation that reads differently under changing light conditions. The shell panels are geometrically segmented, with cloud and dragon scrollwork in relief along the flanks. The dragon head features open-mouthed detail, whiskers, and a fully scaled neck; the four clawed feet spread wide and low across the plinth surface, each toe individually articulated. This is handcrafted bronze sculpture at a scale and level of finish consistent with formal civic and heritage installation.

At 150cm and 800kg, this piece is suited to grand exterior settings: formal courtyards, estate entrances, institutional forecourts, and large landscaped gardens. Indoors, it performs equally well in double-height entrance halls, listed buildings, or expansive gallery spaces. The dark bronze and verdigris patina reads well against pale stone, aged brick, dark slate, or neutral render. The Stone plinth visible in reference imagery is separate from the casting and not included; the sculpture is supplied as cast.

Handmade to Order, Fully Customisable

Alternative patina finishes are available, including natural dark bronze, aged gold, and custom oxidation tones. Scale variants can be produced for clients requiring a larger or smaller footprint. This subject has a long history of commission for cultural institutions, private estates, and hospitality environments; we are also able to produce presentations inspired by the work of traditional Chinese bronze casting artisans for clients seeking a documented provenance reference. Contact us before ordering to discuss your requirements and receive a full specification sheet.
