Inward Facing Guardian Lion Marble Statue - 180cm $26,97700
Description

A pair of Chinese guardian lions face one another, seated with mouths open, on plinths carrying a lotus-petal band and a triangular apron cut around a floral roundel. One rests its forepaw on a cub, the other on an embroidered ball. One lion is supplied, so a facing pair means ordering twice.

Guardian Lions Carved to Face Each Other

Carving two figures to face each other is a different problem from carving two that look the same way. The heads must turn inward by the same degree or the pair reads as one lion and one accident, and that angle is struck on both blocks before either mane is begun. The floral roundel on each apron is cut to the same depth for the same reason. Everything that will be seen twice is measured twice.

A facing pair frames rather than guards: set them either side of a short path, a threshold, a pool or a flight of steps so the two heads close the space between them. That works at a narrower spacing than an outward-facing pair, which is often the deciding factor in a courtyard. A single lion from the pair still stands well alone at a corner. Give each a level bed at the same height.

Facing Inward or Flanking a Path

Fifteen weeks for a facing pair, fourteen for one. The inward angle is set on both blocks at the outset and checked against each other at every stage, because a head that has drifted cannot be brought back. The plinth aprons are cut before the figures are seated. The ball and the cub are undercut at the end. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 3,403kg per piece, craned into position on level bases.

Production Time

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
