Grey Bubbled Free-Form Top Gold Stem Low Table, 82cm, with acrylic organic-edge top on a gold trumpet stem and round base, shown on a plain white background.
Grey Bubbled Free-Form Top Gold Stem Low Table - 82cm $4,72500
Description

The top of this low table has no straight edge. It is cast free-form, wandering in and out of a rough oval, and its whole body carries a dense field of bubbles that reads grey where they crowd and almost clear where they thin. It sits low on a gold-plated trumpet stem that opens out to a round plated foot. Top and stem are the only two parts, and the stem is the only opaque one.

A Field of Bubbles Held in a Free-Form Top

Bubbles in a casting are usually the fault you work to avoid, so putting them in on purpose means controlling them instead. The field has to be even enough to read as a decision and irregular enough not to read as a pattern, and every bubble that breaks the surface has to be closed before the top is finished or the face is left pitted. The free-form edge is cut after the cast rather than moulded, which is the only way to get an outline that does not repeat, and it is then rolled so it catches light the whole way round. The stem is plated brass and its trumpet is formed rather than turned from solid, since a solid trumpet at this size would put more weight in the base than the top asks for. Foot and stem are plated in one go to hold a single gold.

A free-form top has no front, so this is a table to walk round: in the middle of a seating group, beside a chair with nothing behind it, or out on a rug where the outline can be seen whole. The bubbles answer light from above, so a pendant or a downlight does more for it than a window does. Its top comes to roughly the height of a sofa cushion and takes a tray without ceremony. A plain floor is kinder to it than a patterned one, since the field is already busy.

Bubble Density, Stem Plating and a Two-Part Delivery

Order a standard piece and it takes 3–4 weeks; order it bespoke and it takes 5–6. Bubble density is set at order and moves the piece further than its colour does: crowded reads as grey stone, thinned reads as glass with a haze. The grey can be taken toward a smoke or a warm champagne, and a colourless version is offered. The outline is cut to order and can be run out toward a rough circle or drawn in tighter. Stem plating comes in this gold, a brighter brass, a chrome or a black. Top and stem travel separately, the top on edge in a crate, and the two are joined on site through a plate under the top. The top is a two-person lift and the stem a one-person carry. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A free-form top with no front belongs with our acrylic sculptures; a gold trumpet stem over a plated foot leads to our metal sculptures, and a table to walk round in a seating group joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
