Green Open Book Acrylic Sculpture on Metal Stand - 121cm $7,80100
Description

An acrylic sculpture of an open book, its two green leaves spread in a shallow V either side of a bright polished bar at the spine, and carried on a polished metal stand. The left leaf has an oval cut into its face in a pale lime, and the right a set of concentric ovals, ochre and olive round a coral-pink centre, like a section through a growth ring. The frame stands on four splayed legs braced by a rail across the front and another across the back, and at 121cm overall it puts the open pages at the height a book is actually read at.

The Stand Decides the Reading Height

The stand is not a plinth and it is not furniture: it is the element of the work that settles what the book is doing. Set the same leaves on the floor and they are an object being looked at; carry them to reading height and they are a book open at a lectern, which is a different proposition altogether and the only reason the piece reads as it does. Getting there is a stability problem, because the mass is wide and high and the footprint has to stay small enough to walk past. The four legs splay in both directions rather than one, so the footprint is a broad rectangle rather than a trestle's line, and the rails across the front and the back sit low, bracing the frame without becoming a shelf. At the top the leaves rest in a curved metal cradle, held at their outer edges by small dark clips.

This wants floor space and an approach: it is met from the front, at reading height, and it needs a pace or two in front of it to be seen properly. A hall, a wide landing, a study, a library corner or the turn of a stair all suit it, and it stands well away from a wall since the frame is open and reads from every side. Keep it out of a corridor: the open leaves spread wide at about waist height, where a passing elbow would find them. Light from in front and above puts the coloured ovals at their best; light from behind turns the green dark and the ovals disappear into it.

Frame, Leaves and Installation

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. Leaf size, the oval and the height of the frame are settled with the order. A version at desk height on a short frame, or one with the pages turned as though caught mid-turn, both come from this design. Colour is settled at order: this green with its lime and coral ovals, a clear body with a dark oval, or a blue-to-white grading through the leaves. The frame can be polished as here, or given a blackened or a brass-toned finish. Stand the frame on a level floor and move the piece by the frame, never by a leaf. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

An open book of green acrylic raised to reading height on its metal stand, it sits well among our acrylic sculptures, our metal sculptures and our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
