Frosted Incised Line Cast Resin Chair - 70cm
Frosted Incised Line Cast Resin Chair - 70cm $4,45200
Description

A frosted cast chair with a curved back. The back is a barrel, curving forward at both sides to meet a seat with a rolled front edge. Fine lines are incised into the surface rather than raised from it: one runs straight down the middle, starting at the top edge of the back and ending at the bottom of the seat; one crosses the back just above the seat with a row of short slanting strokes standing over it; and four more drop from that cross line over the rolled front. Three plain cylindrical legs carry it. The frost is even and the incisions read as fine light lines within it.

Incised Lines Across a Curved Back

The incised drawing is what gives this chair its character, and the interesting part is what the curve does to it. The cross line bows as it follows the barrel of the back, and the short strokes above it lean in and out like grass along a bank, so the pattern reads differently from every side. Each line is a shallow groove, so it catches a fine edge on one side and stays frosted on the other, and the whole pattern reads more strongly in raking light than in flat. The vertical lines carry on over the roll of the seat front, so back and seat read as one drawn surface, and short strokes fringe the lower edge of the seat. The three legs are of one diameter and one length.

At 70cm this is a dining or desk chair, and the incised back makes it worth placing where the back is seen, which usually means the far side of a table rather than against a wall. A single one works at a dressing table or a hall desk. The frost takes on whatever is behind it, so a plain wall keeps the lines legible and a busy one competes with them. Set light to one side and the lines darken and read clearly; light from the front flattens them almost away. It wants a hard floor for the three feet. Indoors only.

How Close the Lines Run, and Whether They Wrap

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. The incising adds the time rather than the casting. The drawing itself is the main variable, from this sparse arrangement of lines and strokes up to a close lattice that reads as a texture rather than a pattern. Whether the cross line stops short of the sides as here or runs right round the barrel, which turns the pattern into a wrap. And the depth of the groove, which decides whether the lines read as dark lines or as shadows. A plain back with no incising is also available. The incised lines, the seat height and the overall height are all open. It arrives crated and finished; a single person can lift it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Drawn on with incised lines, this chair joins our geometric sculptures; as seating it is part of our art furniture, and in frosted resin it sits beside our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
