Figured Timber Top Bamboo Column Console, 220cm, with glossy red-brown wood top and end panel on dark metal bamboo-form legs, shown on a plain white background.
Figured Timber Top Bamboo Column Console - 220cm $15,52600
Description

In this timber and metal console a deep rectangular top and one full end panel are made in a strongly figured red-brown timber under a high gloss, and together they form an L that cantilevers out from the panel. Three bamboo-form columns in dark matt metal stand under the free end. The figure in the timber runs the length of the top and turns down the panel without a break at the corner.

A Cantilevered L Held Up at One End

The figure is chosen before anything is cut, because the top and the end panel are taken from the same board so the grain turns the corner without a break, and that single decision governs the whole look of the piece. The gloss is built up in successive coats and cut back between each one, which is the long part of the work. The three columns are made separately, finished matt so they take no reflection, and set under the free end where the cantilever needs them.

Its place is a hall or an entrance, against a stretch of wall it can have to itself. The end panel goes to the floor and the other end is carried on the columns, so it is not symmetrical: decide which end faces the door before it is set down. The gloss reflects, so it wants a wall worth reflecting.

The Columns, the Timber, and Fixing It Down

In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. Most of it is the bamboo column work. There are three open questions. The species and the figure of the timber are both yours to choose, the columns can be supplied in a polished finish, and the cantilever can be shortened where the run of wall is tighter. Top length and overall height are cut to your figures. Both pieces of a pair share the figure in the timber top when they are ordered together. The top edges and the three columns must be wrapped before anything else goes in the crate, and four people lift it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Three bamboo-form columns under a glossy timber L relate this console to our metal sculptures; in an entrance it serves among our art furniture, and a hall wall among our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
