Cyan & Violet Edge-Standing Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 75cm
Cyan & Violet Edge-Standing Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 75cm $3,45900
Description

An acrylic sculpture cut as a leaning block, standing on an edge rather than on a face, so two planes meet the floor and the flat, slanting top tips away from whoever is in front of it. The cut is broad: eight or nine faces, each wide enough to hold one colour across it. Cyan and violet fill the upper half, and the foot goes pale gold where the film is met almost edge-on.

Standing on an Edge Instead of a Face

An edge is a different problem from a point. A block balanced on a vertex arrives at the floor through one small flat and the whole question is where that flat is cut; a block standing on an edge arrives through TWO planes, and both of them have to be coplanar with the floor at once. That cannot be worked out on paper. The two faces are cut close and then brought together on a flat bench by trial, taking material off whichever one is holding the piece proud, until it sits without rock in any direction. The lean follows from the same operation rather than being set separately: the angle of the top plane against the floor is whatever those two faces leave, so the drawing has to anticipate it. Every block comes out leaning a degree or two differently.

Seventy-five centimetres of leaning block is floor and plinth work and it wants space around it: the turn of a room, an open fireplace surround, a stair head, or a plinth set where it is seen from across the space. It leans, so which face meets somebody coming in is a decision to take before it is set down. Light raking across from a window is best. Light from directly in front hits the leaning top square on and washes it out, and the two floor planes are what tell you the piece is standing on an edge, so nothing should be allowed to hide them.

Two Planes on the Floor, and Delivery

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. The bench work on the two floor planes paces this build, since there is no way to compute it and it is done by trial. Scale, cut and film are settled per commission, so a version at hall height, one cut with many more faces, or a pair leaning away from each other are all from this design. The film runs from this cyan and violet through gold-to-rose and green-to-cyan, and on a block this size it can be applied to alternate faces so half of it stays clear. It is set down on its own edge and turned into place rather than assembled, taken by its broad faces and never by the slanting top. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Standing on an edge instead of a face is a geometric sculpture decision; the dichroic body is acrylic sculpture; and the film holds its colour under the conditions indoor sculpture assumes.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
