Cream & Amber Balanced Slabs Resin Sculpture, 150cm, with amber block and cream slab crossing atop a cylindrical plinth, on a plain white background.
Cream & Amber Balanced Slabs Resin Sculpture - 150cm $6,81700
Description

A standing block with a slab laid across it at an angle, the pair carried on a plinth that brings the crossing to about the height of a person's eye. Amber in the standing block and cream in the slab laid across it, so the two are told apart by colour before they are told apart by angle. A plinth of marble and stainless steel comes with it.

Two Slabs Crossing at a Single Point

Two slabs crossing at a single point use very little material, which is why the crossing has to carry the whole argument. The plinth is not an accessory here. It carries more than half the overall height and it decides where the crossing sits relative to somebody standing in front of it, which is the only position from which the two colours can be read against one another. Two colours in one clear body means the crossing shows both at once, and the material there is the only place on the piece the eye cannot name a single tone. Polished on all faces, and the plinth is left with its own honed surface.

Floor work, and firmly so: the plinth carries most of the height and nothing on a table would suit it. A plain wall behind it. The plinth is pale enough that a dark ground would cut it off at the foot. Light from above is what this wants; a lamp at the foot lights the plinth and leaves the slabs flat. The balance carries the length of a room; the colour crossing waits until you are within a pace or two.

Changing the Crossing, and Two Crates

Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. The angle of the crossing can be opened, the two colours can be exchanged for one, and the plinth can be cut at another height. Cut the plinth at another height and the slabs are reproportioned to it, since the crossing has to sit near eye height to be read at all. Plinth and casting are crated separately and are brought together for the first time in the room they will stand in. Three people for the plinth. The casting is set on after the plinth is level. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Slabs balanced over steel and stone lead to our stainless steel sculptures; the pair of tinted slabs belongs among our resin sculptures, and more to rise above eye level is in our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
