This cast resin armchair is built on a one-piece shell that carries a hole. Back, arms and seat run together without a join, and cut clear through the back is a wide oval void with a soft irregular outline, so a sitter is framed by material rather than backed by it. Above the void the top rail swells into two rounded shoulders. Below, four legs are modelled as soft melted forms, uneven in section and wider at the floor. All of it is colourless and polished, and the void makes the chair read as far lighter than its footprint suggests.
The void is the whole idea. Back, arms and seat are one continuous shell with no join on the outer face, and then a wide oval is cut clear through the back of it, so the part of the chair that would have carried the most material is left open. The outline of that void is soft and irregular rather than a drawn ellipse, and above it the top rail swells into two rounded shoulders. Below, the four legs are modelled as melted forms, uneven in section and broadening towards the floor, which sets a soft geometry against the sharp interruption of the void. Everything is colourless and polished, so the chair reads as an outline with a hole in it.
At 76cm high this is an armchair that will run in to a table, and the void in the back changes where it can go. Whatever stands behind the chair is seen through that opening, so it belongs against something plain or in open floor rather than in front of a busy shelf. Colourless resin nearly disappears against a window. Two people to move it. Indoors.
Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Most of it is the pierced back. You settle three things. The shell is offered tinted, the void in the back can be cut to another outline, and the leg forms are modelled differently on every chair. The seat height is settled at order. Neither the seat height nor the overall width is fixed. The outline of the void in the back will only agree between pieces that were made in the same order. It ships with the void in the back and the four feet protected and wants two people to position it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A clear shell with an oval cut through its back gives our art furniture an armchair framed by air; the pierced form suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a plain-walled room among our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
