The seat is a single thick panel of clear acrylic, its face worked into a close horizontal texture that runs the length of the bench, and it sits close to the floor on two blocks faced in brass. A light strip is fitted along the underside, so the bench lights along its whole length and the worked face glows from below instead of at one point. Both ends reach out past their blocks.
Working a texture into acrylic this deep is a different job from etching a sheet, because the tool has to leave a mark the eye reads at the face while the panel keeps its depth behind it: too shallow and the texture goes when the strip is on, too deep and the panel loses its surface. The lines are run the length of the panel in one direction only, since a cross-hatch breaks the light into flecks instead of carrying it. The blocks are steel faced in brass rather than solid brass, which keeps weight out of a piece that is already heavy, and each stands a good way inside its own end of the panel, which leaves the seat looking carried by nothing at all.
A bench this close to the floor is not a seat you get up from in a hurry, so it belongs where sitting is optional: along a hall wall, across the end of a bed, in a window, or as a platform for books and a tray. The light decides where it goes - against a pale wall the strip washes the wall, and out in a room it reads only on the panel itself. Leave both overhangs clear so the panel reads as one piece.
Making a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks, and making a bespoke one 5–6. The strip is offered in a warm white, a cool white or a colour-changing run, and it can be left out altogether. Panel thickness is open and the texture can be opened out to a coarse break or closed to a fine tooth. The blocks come in brass, a darker bronze, chrome or a black powder coat, and where they sit along the panel is set at order. Length is cut to order. Panel and blocks travel separately and the panel is a three-person lift; it is set onto its blocks in place and nothing is fixed to the floor. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A close texture lit from below belongs with our acrylic sculptures; blocks faced in brass beneath a lit panel lead to our stainless steel sculptures, and a low platform for books in a window joins our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
