Clear Slotted Splat Acrylic Armchair, 80cm, horseshoe-back design with slotted splat and stretcher-braced legs, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Slotted Splat Acrylic Armchair - 80cm $4,59000
Description

Cut in clear acrylic, this armchair follows the old horseshoe-back pattern: one curved crest rail runs round from arm to arm across the back, a flat splat rises at its centre with a long narrow slot cut clean through it, rounded at both ends, and the square seat stands on four legs braced by stretchers on every side.

A Slot Cut Through the Splat

Each member is brought to its final profile first and polished on every face afterwards, the inside edges of the stretchers included. The slot is cut clean through the splat and polished inside along its whole depth, working from each face in turn, and that is the slow part: an opening in clear acrylic shows every mark left in it. The crest rail runs from one arm through the back to the other as one length, because a joint in clear acrylic shows as a grey seam even at a distance.

At 80cm to the top of the crest rail this is a dining or an occasional armchair, and it pushes in under a table as readily as a timber one. Clear acrylic borrows its presence from whatever stands behind it, so a dark wall gives it more than a pale corner can, and the slot is seen by someone standing but lost to anyone seated.

The Crest, the Slot, and the Order

In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. Most of it is the horseshoe crest. Three choices are open. The slot can be reshaped or omitted, the crest rail can open wider at the arms, and the acrylic can carry a tint. The seat height and the crest height are whatever you specify. Chairs ordered together have their slots cut alike. The packing protects the crest rail tips and the splat; moving it wants two people. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A horseshoe crest carved from solid acrylic sits with our acrylic sculptures; pulled up to dinner it joins the chairs of our art furniture, and a dark-walled room among our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
