Clear Ribbed Underside Cast Resin Plate (20cm) by Giant Sculptures, shown underside-up with fine radiating ribs around a central boss, on a plain white background.
Clear Ribbed Underside Cast Resin Plate - 20cm $1,41700
Description

A colourless plate of cast resin, with fine ribs radiating across the underside from a small boss at the centre. The upper face is left entirely plain and the rim is drawn thin. The ribs are seen through the material rather than on it. Nothing is supplied under it, because the ribbed underside is the foot.

The Pattern Is on the Back

Putting the pattern on the back of a clear plate is the whole design and it has two reasons. The first is use: a ribbed upper face collects everything and cannot be wiped, while a plain one can. The second is better. Ribs on the underside are seen through the thickness of the material, so they are slightly magnified, slightly displaced, and they move as the head moves, which a pattern on the near face does not do at all. The plate changes as you lean over it and goes still again when you stop. The centre boss is there to give the radiating lines somewhere to start.

It is small and shallow and it is for a desk, a side table or a shelf at hand height, where it will be looked down into. It will hold what a plate this shallow holds, and anything in it covers the ribs, so it is at its best with very little or nothing on it. A pale surface beneath shows the ribs at their clearest; a dark one turns them into faint grey lines. It takes 20cm and sits flat.

The Ribs, the Face, and Delivery

Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The rib count is cut coarser or finer, the boss is drawn broader or left out, and the body is tinted. A version with the ribs on the upper face is made and is a more obvious object that loses the movement described above. It is also cast at other diameters, where the ribbing carries further. It is sent in one flat box between shaped boards with the rim protected right around, and one hand lifts it. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A plate ribbed on its underside belongs with our art furniture; a clear body with its ribs seen through it leads to our resin sculptures, and a dish whose pattern moves as you lean over it joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
