Clear Recumbent Dog on Gold-Flecked Resin Block, 30cm, clear polished dog lying with head raised atop a gold leaf-flecked resin base, plain white background.
Clear Recumbent Dog on Gold-Flecked Resin Block - 30cm $1,88900
Description

This dog is lying rather than sitting. Its forelegs are extended, its head is up and forward, and the whole animal runs horizontally along the top of the block it rests on. The block is clear resin filled with gold leaf and it is deep, so the piece is made of two shapes pulling against each other: a long low animal above an upright mass. The dog itself is clear, polished, and lightly flecked with gold.

A Horizontal Animal on an Upright Block

Two shapes that disagree have to be reconciled at the one place they meet, and the seat is where all the decisions are. The animal is longer than the block is wide, so it overhangs at the front, and how far it does so is set by eye with the piece standing: a little and the dog looks stranded, too much and the block looks inadequate. The overhanging chest is also the part most easily knocked, so it is given a full section underneath rather than being modelled thin for the look of it. Inside the block the leaf runs from the top face to the foot, so the block glitters at every depth.

A recumbent animal reads along its length, so this wants to be seen from the side and it should be set parallel to the front of whatever it stands on rather than facing out. Shelves suit it, and so does a windowsill, where the light comes across the length of the animal. Keep the overhanging end clear of anything it might catch. A pale wall behind shows the clear body as an outline; a dark one lets the clear block almost vanish, so the dog seems to lie on a field of gold.

Proportion, the Leaf Inside It and Handling

Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. The proportion between animal and block is open, so a shallow pad or a deeper mass are both made, and the leaf runs from dense to a few drifts in gold, silver or copper. The block can be tinted near black, amber or smoke instead of clear, and the dog can be tinted or frosted rather than left clear and polished. A seated dog on the same kind of block can be set beside it, and this price is for one animal. Any scale is cut to order. Animal and block travel boxed and sleeved together, and the piece is lifted under the block rather than by the animal. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A dog lying along the top of its block belongs with our animal sculptures; forelegs stretched and head raised lead to our figurative sculptures, and a block glittering with gilt flakes joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
