Clear Modelled Shell Cast Resin Chair, 82cm, in polished transparent resin with a rounded sculpted back and splayed foot, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Modelled Shell Cast Resin Chair - 82cm $4,38700
Description

This is a chair in optically clear resin, heavily modelled rather than drawn: the back is a rounded shield carrying two large paired swellings above and two below, the seat dishes deeply in the middle, and the front drops away into a splayed foot. Every surface is polished and the whole chair is one colour, so the form is read entirely through light rather than through any change of tone.

A Chair Modelled Rather Than Drawn

Colourless is the hardest thing to cast at this size, because with no tint to hide behind, every bubble and every lift line reads from any angle. The paired swellings are modelled by hand, so they belong to this design and not to a pattern, and the seat dishes deeply under them with no line where the two meet. Polishing is the long part of the build: every curve is worked from a coarse grade right through to a mirror, inside the dish as well as across the back.

At 82cm to the top of the back this is a dining chair with real presence, and a set of them reads as a row of modelled forms from across a room. Being colourless it takes its colour from what is behind it, so a dark floor or a strong wall gives it far more than a pale room does, and a rug of any colour under it will read straight up through the seat.

Tint, Seat Depth, and What Colourless Costs in Time

As standard the build runs 3–4 weeks, and as a bespoke commission 5–6. Most of it is the modelled shell. Three choices are open. A tint can be put through it instead of leaving it colourless, the paired forms in the back can be worked shallower or fuller, and the seat dish can be made deeper. Seat height and back height are each specified. Ask for several together if the swell of the paired forms in the back needs to agree between them. The packing protects the swollen forms and the splayed foot; moving it wants two people. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Paired swellings modelled into a clear shield back make a chair for our art furniture; the modelled form suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a strong-walled room among our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
