Clear Horned Beast on Banded Resin Column (86cm) by Giant Sculptures, showing a horned beast atop a tall clear column with scale-patterned base, on a plain white background.
Clear Horned Beast on Banded Resin Column - 86cm $3,24000
Description

One clear resin column, three registers. At the top a small horned beast sits square on a flat cap, one tall pointed horn rising from a crown of knobs. Below it a raised band carries archaic ornament in relief, cut deep and repeated round all four faces. The long body of the column is left plain and clear, and from the foot a field of overlapping scale-shapes rises about a third of the way up it. Everything is the same colourless resin and nothing is painted.

Three Different Surfaces Running Up One Shaft

Three finishes on one shaft means three standards on one object, and the hard part is the joins between them. The plain middle section is the most unforgiving because there is nothing on it: a clear polished face of this length shows every ripple, so it is flatted along its whole run rather than in sections and then polished in one pass. Where it meets the ornamented band the change has to be a line, not a fade, and where it meets the scale field at the foot the scales have to stop on an even front all the way round or the column looks as though it has been dipped crooked. The beast at the top is cut with the fine tools its scale needs and polished all over, because a small pale creature above a long clear shaft has to hold its own light. Its horn is the finest passage on the piece and is worked last, free of the crown behind it.

A tall narrow piece wants floor rather than furniture, and at this height it reads best standing on the ground against a plain wall, where the beast comes to about chest height. It suits a hall, an alcove or the space beside a doorway. A pair either side of an opening is the traditional arrangement and this price is for one column. It takes a light from one flank to bring out the ornament and the scale field; a downlight lands on the finial and leaves both registers flat. Give it a level floor.

Ornament, Proportion and Standing It Up

Allow 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. Column proportion is open, so the plain section can be lengthened or the ornament brought further up, and either register can be left off altogether. The finial is offered with gold, silver or copper leaf, or replaced by a plain cap, a sphere or a lotus. Tints of amber, smoke and green run through the whole shaft, and the ornament can be gilded against a clear column. Any height is cut to order, including pairs for an entrance. It ships upright in a fitted crate with the finial packed clear of the box wall; two people should stand it up, taking it around the shaft rather than by the beast. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A horned beast on a banded column belongs with our figurative sculptures; archaic ornament and a field of scales lead to our resin sculptures, and a column for an alcove joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
