Clear Grained Panel Bench on a Brass Trestle (100cm) with a textured acrylic seat and brass legs, shown against a plain white background.
Clear Grained Panel Bench on a Brass Trestle - 100cm $4,79200
Description

On this bench the seat is a thick clear panel, its face broken into a coarse horizontal grain that reads almost like split stone, and its front long edge rolled over so there is no arris to sit against. Under it is a trestle: two upright legs faced in brass, joined by a brass rail set directly under the seat. It is a chair height rather than a step height.

A Coarse Grain Across the Face and One Rolled Edge

A coarse grain is harder to bring off than a fine one, because every facet is big enough to be looked at on its own and one that catches at the wrong angle reads as damage instead of texture. The face is worked in bands across the width and then blended where the bands meet, so the grain runs on from end to end without a rhythm you can count. Rolling the front edge is a separate operation and it is done first, since that edge is the one part of the panel that has to be optically clean and any grit off the grain work would go straight into it. The trestle is steel faced in brass, its two legs standing square, with the rail carried right up under the seat, which keeps the space beneath it open.

A bench this short fits where a chair will not: inside a door, at the end of a bath, under a window, at the foot of a bed. The rolled edge is the front, so put the grained face where light rakes it from the side rather than straight on. It takes an adult without ceremony and pushes back against a wall. The brass trestle is the only opaque part and reads as two bright marks, which is worth setting against a plain wall rather than a busy one.

Grain Depth, Rail Position and Two Facing Benches

Ours is a 3–4 week build as standard, and a 5–6 week build when the commission is bespoke. Grain depth is set at order and runs from this coarse break to a fine even tooth. The panel is offered plain where the grain is not wanted, and both long edges can be rolled instead of one. Rail position along the legs is open, and the trestle is available faced in brass, bronze, chrome or powder-coated black. Length and seat height are cut to order, and two benches meant to face each other are scheduled as one lot. Panel and trestle travel apart, the panel on edge in a crate, and two people bolt them together where the bench stands. Nothing is glued and nothing is fixed down. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A coarse grain like split stone belongs with our acrylic sculptures; an upright trestle faced in brass leads to our stainless steel sculptures, and a short seat by an entrance joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
