Clear Gold-Leaf Fish-Tailed Dragon (22cm) resin sculpture with gold leaf flecks, curved tail rising above waves, on a clear base against a white background.
Clear Gold-Leaf Fish-Tailed Dragon - 22cm $1,55200
Description

The head is a dragon's, with horns laid back, whiskers and an open mouth. Behind it the body is a fish's, scaled and curving upward, and it finishes in a forked tail that rises higher than the head itself. The whole animal rides a bank of carved waves that breaks around its flank, and the waves and the beast are one piece of clear resin with gold leaf suspended through both, standing on a clear rectangular base.

A Tail That Finishes Above the Head

An animal that finishes above its own head has to be balanced twice: once as a shape, so the eye reads the tail as the top of the composition rather than as an accident, and once as an object, because the mass is high and the footprint is the wave bank rather than four feet. The waves are therefore cut heavier than they look and the tail is thinned from behind, where the loss cannot be seen against the light. The scales run over a body that curves in two directions, so no two rows are the same length and each is set out from the row above it. The whiskers are the last thing cut, when nothing else can be knocked.

Put it on a desk or a cabinet top and look at it from the side, which is the only angle that gives the whole curve from muzzle to tail. Put it where there is light behind it: on a glass shelf, in front of a window or beside a lamp, the waves fill with light and the gold in the body comes up. On a solid shelf with light from above it goes flat and reads as a grey shape. Leave the space above it clear, because the tail is the highest point and the composition runs upward.

Sets, Colour and How It Travels

Plan for 3–4 weeks on a standard piece and 5–6 weeks on a bespoke commission. This beast belongs to a set of four, each a different animal, and the others are made to match so a group can be built up over time. Gold leaf in a clear body is how it comes; a green, an amber, or a resin with nothing at all in it are the alternatives, and the leaf can be silver or copper. The waves can be cut deeper or taken back to a plain plinth. Scale runs from this desk size up to a hall piece. It arrives boxed with the base attached and the tail supported; take it under the base rather than by the beast. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A dragon riding a bank of carved waves belongs with our classic sculptures; a fish body curving up to a forked tail leads to our figurative sculptures, and waves and beast cast as a single clear piece join our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
