Clear Dished Disc with Mirrored Bead Resin Sculpture (43cm) by Giant Sculptures, showing a transparent dished disc with a silver bead center on a black marble base, set against a plain white background.
Clear Dished Disc with Mirrored Bead Resin Sculpture - 43cm $2,36200
Description

A colourless disc, dished to a mirrored bead at its middle. Both faces are dished from the rim inward, and what is behind the piece arrives inverted and magnified. The bead is the only opaque thing in the casting. The stone below is a block of black marble and comes with the disc.

One Opaque Thing in a Transparent Object

A disc dished on both faces is a lens, and a lens with nothing at its focus is an uncomfortable object. Everything behind it arrives inverted, magnified and swimming, and the eye keeps hunting for something in the piece to settle on and finds only more displaced room. The bead is the answer and it is the only opaque element in the casting. Because it sits at the middle of the dish it is also at the middle of everything the curvature is doing, so it gives the eye a fixed point exactly where the distortion is strongest. Making it mirrored rather than matt is the second decision. A matt bead would read as a hole; a mirrored one throws the room back out of the piece while the body around it is bending the room coming in, so the centre is doing the opposite of the surface and the two hold each other in place.

It is a device for altering what is behind it, so it needs something behind it worth altering: a window, a lit wall at some distance, or a run of room. Against a blank surface a hand away it has nothing to work on and goes flat. At 43cm it needs little depth, so a console, a sideboard or a long shelf with the run to itself will take it, and it must be met square, since from the side the dish closes and the bead disappears behind the rim.

The Bead, the Dish, and Delivery

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. The bead is finished in brass or cut in stone, the dish is turned deeper, and the body is tinted through. The dish is also turned deeper, which increases the magnification and makes the piece considerably more demanding of its position, and the disc is cast at other diameters on the same stone. A tinted body is offered and competes with the effect rather than adding to it, since colour in the material gives the eye something to rest on and the whole design depends on there being nothing to rest on but the bead. It ships on edge in one case with the stone apart, and the disc is raised by its rim. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A disc dished to a centre is contemporary sculpture; the body is colourless resin sculpture; and a mirrored bead is indoor sculpture work.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
