Clear Cross-Cut Ripple Acrylic Bench on Mirror Blades - 150cm
Clear Cross-Cut Ripple Acrylic Bench on Mirror Blades - 150cm $7,82600
Description

This bench is a thick clear panel worked the short way: the chiselled ripple crosses the width from front to back rather than travelling the length, so the panel reads as a run of close parallel bands rather than as a flowing surface. Two mirror-polished stainless blades carry it, and each returns the banding as a second image.

A Ripple Cut Across the Width, Not Along It

Working across the width means starting and stopping at an edge on every pass, and each of those stops is visible on a clear body. Both long arrises therefore have to be cut back and rolled after the ripple is worked, not before, so the roll takes the ends of every band with it and the edge finishes as a clean line rather than a row of terminations. The spacing of the bands is set out from the middle so any residual difference falls at the two ends. A mirror blade is the harder finish to put under a worked panel, because it doubles everything above it: any band that drifts is drifting twice.

Cross-cut banding is read from above and from the ends, which makes this a bench to walk up to rather than along: the foot of a bed, a window bay, across the end of a hall. It is a low seat, and its flat rolled edges are comfortable to sit on. Mirror blades want a plain hard floor, where they take the floor tone and disappear so the panel appears to float. Over a patterned rug they fragment and the illusion goes.

Working Direction, Blade Finish and Two-Part Assembly

Once ordered, a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke one 5–6. Panel depth is offered heavier or lighter, and the ripple can be turned to run along the length instead, which changes the piece completely. Band spacing is open. Length is cut to order. Blades can be supplied brushed, coated or in a darker metal if the mirror is too active, and their spacing is set at order. Panel and blades come as separate items and are bolted up beneath the panel, so the bench comes in as three pieces. Two people are wanted for the panel. Each blade is a one-person carry and travels boxed, a mirror face being the part that marks. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Bands cut across the width rather than along it belong with our acrylic sculptures; mirror blades that return the banding below point to our stainless steel sculptures, and a cross-banded seat set square to a passing corridor joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
