The working on this bench runs the length rather than the width: the top is combed into close parallel lines from one end to the other, and each long side is then turned to a generous radius so the combing carries down over it and stops. It is a thick panel lifted on two polished stainless blades. Nothing is cut into the ends, which are left plain.
Combing along the length and rolling the edges have to be done in that order, and the roll is what makes the piece. Comb first and roll second and every line turns down over the edge and finishes as part of the curve; roll first and comb second and the lines stop dead at the top of the roll in a row of terminations. Getting the first order to work means the roll has to be taken from a face that is no longer flat, so the radius is worked to the comb rather than to a template. Leaving the ends plain is deliberate: it gives the eye somewhere to stop.
Lines running the length make the bench look longer than it is, so it suits a short wall as well as a long one. It sits at a low seat height, and the rolled edges are what make it comfortable. The combing is read from above and along, so a hall or a landing does more for it than a corner. Polished blades want a plain hard floor to reflect, where they take the floor tone and step back.
Ordinarily a standard piece needs 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. Comb pitch can be opened out or closed in, and the combing can be run across the width instead, which changes the piece entirely. The edge radius is set at order and can be tightened for a sharper profile. Panel depth is offered heavier. The panel is cut to the length you need and can be tinted. Blades are available brushed, coated or in a darker metal. Nothing arrives assembled: the blades bolt beneath the panel once both are inside. Two people are wanted for the panel. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Combing that turns down over a rolled edge belongs with our acrylic sculptures; a panel lifted on two polished blades leads to our stainless steel sculptures, and a seat to run along a landing joins our indoor sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
