Clear Cockerel with Sweeping Tail on Marble, 56cm, a clear resin sculpture with raised comb and arched tail plumes on a black marble base, shown against a plain light background.
Clear Cockerel with Sweeping Tail on Marble - 56cm $2,90200
Description

The cockerel in this cast resin sculpture stands with its chest out, its comb and wattles raised, and its tail drawn up into three plumes that sweep back and over the body in separate, far-reaching arcs. Nothing supports them. The wing is cut as a set of layered feathers against the flank, the legs are short and scaled, and the whole bird is colourless and polished. A block of black marble sits under it.

Three Plumes Reaching Back Into Air

Three unsupported arcs on one bird is the difficulty and it is a matter of section rather than shape. Each plume has to be thick enough at the root to hold its curve and fine enough at the tip to look like a feather, and the taper between the two has to be even along a curve of that length, which is done by eye against the other two. They also have to clear each other: the gaps between them are what makes three plumes read as three, and a gap that closes turns the tail into one lump. So the spacing is cut first and the tapers worked afterwards. The comb and the wattles are the finest passages on the front of the bird and are taken past the grade used on the body, which is why they flash when the rest of the bird does not.

A tail that reaches back and over needs air behind the bird, so this wants the middle of a surface rather than the back of it: a dining sideboard, a kitchen island, a broad console. Keep a hand's width clear behind the plumes. It reads best from the side, where all three arcs separate, and closes up when seen head on. Light from behind is what lifts it - the plumes go bright while the body stays solid - and a dark surface underneath sets the marble against the animal.

Tail Length, Colour and Bringing It In

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. The plumes can be drawn in closer to the body or carried further, and two or four can be cut instead of three. Tints of amber, smoke and green run through the resin, gold or copper leaf can be worked into the comb and the wattles alone, and a frosted bird is offered in place of the polish. The marble comes in this black, a white or a grey, and its thickness is set at order. A hen can be made to the same scale where a pair is wanted. Any size is cut to order. Bird and marble are crated together but packed apart and are joined by hand; one person can lift each. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A cockerel with its tail swept back in plumes belongs with our bird sculptures; a raised comb and an outthrust chest lead to our animal sculptures, and a clear bird on a dark stone block joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
