Clear Chopped Face Acrylic Bench on Steel Legs (130cm) by Giant Sculptures, showing a textured clear acrylic seat on silver steel legs against a plain white background.
Clear Chopped Face Acrylic Bench on Steel Legs - 130cm $5,80500
Description

A bench whose seat is a single plate of clear acrylic, shallow for its length, carried on two upright steel legs that make up most of its height. Both long sides of the plate are worked to a coarse chopped face, so the material reads as a broken block where it is cut and as a flat polished surface where it is sat on.

A Chopped Slab Carried on Steel Legs

Acrylic this shallow has to be right first time. Both long sides are cut back once the plate is finished, and the tool is worked across the face rather than along it, so the cut leaves a rank of short vertical ridges instead of a smooth chamfer. Those ridges scatter the light that enters through the top, which is why the edge looks white and the middle of the plate stays almost colourless. The upper surface reads clear and level, which is what makes it comfortable to sit on. No two plates take the cut identically: the ridges land where the tool bites, their spacing varies along the length, and nothing about that pattern is repeated from one bench to the next. The steel legs are made separately, ground flat on the top face and bolted up through the plate from beneath.

The seat sits a little higher than most benches, which suits it to a hallway where people perch rather than settle, and to the foot of a bed where the extra height clears a deep mattress. Its narrow depth keeps it close against a wall. It reads best against a plain surface, where the chopped sides catch the light and the rest of the plate disappears; put it in front of a window and the ridged edges pick up the daylight along their whole length.

The Slab Depth, the Legs, and Getting It Through a Door

Count on the difference between standard and bespoke: 3–4 weeks or 5–6. It can be built to another length on the same depth, and the plate can be cast thicker for a seat with the weight of a block. The legs are offered in the polished finish shown or brushed back to a matt grey. Cast acrylic is heavy for its size and this plate arrives as one piece, so the delivery crew need a clear route from the door to the room, as the plate cannot be turned in a tight stairwell. Two people handle it comfortably. It ships flat with the legs detached and bolts up in a few minutes on site, and the fixings are supplied. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A seat chopped rough along its long sides goes with our art furniture; a shallow plate on upright steel carries on into our acrylic sculptures, and a perching bench for a hall joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
