A breaking wave is cut into the body from the outer wall, with the rest of the cylinder left plain. Colourless throughout, with the carved wave reading white where the cuts are deepest. No base comes with it; the cylinder is cut level underneath and needs nothing else to stand.
What you are looking at is an absence. The wave is cut back into the block rather than raised on it, and it reads as a raised form only because light collects in the cut and not on the flat around it. Turn it away from a source and the whole thing very nearly disappears. Cutting into a solid body from the outside puts the wave inside the block rather than on it: what you are looking at is a hollow, and it reads as a raised form because the light collects in it. Polished over the whole outer wall, with the carving left as cut.
Put it on a cabinet or a wide desk, close enough to be looked into. A dark ground behind it, so the carving has something to be pale against. Light from behind is what it is arranged for; the carving fills and the rest of the block stays empty. From a distance it is a plain cylinder; the wave is a near-view fact.
In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. On request the carving is cut on the other face, another subject is worked into it, or colour goes into the block. Cut the carving deeper and the wall thickens behind it, because what is taken out has to leave something to take it out of. A short crate, and it needs only lifting clear of it. Two people. A solid block of this size weighs more than it looks. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A clear cylinder with a wave cut into it stands in our indoor sculptures; its plain, exact outline suits our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the carved block belongs with our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
