An acrylic sculpture of a crescent lying on its back, built from clear rectangular blocks stepped against one another and set on a long metal base with a light strip in its top, so that it lights from beneath. Neither curve is a curve: both the inner and the outer edge are a flight of small steps, and the eye assembles them into an arc from a distance and takes them apart again close up. The crescent is deepest through the middle; one horn sweeps up high and narrows to a fine stepped point, while the other end stays low and stops square. The blocks are clear with no tint at all, so with the strip on, the belly glows warm and the colour fades towards the high horn. The crescent is also offered without its base.
Approximating a curve with rectangles is a problem of increments. Every block is square-cut, so the curve is made entirely by how far each one is offset from its neighbour, and the offsets have to change smoothly along the arc or the eye finds a straight run in the middle of what should be a curve. Here the arc is uneven by design: one horn climbs high in a long run of single blocks while the other end turns up only a little and stops square, so the stepping has to read as one gesture from the low end to the high horn. Thin horizontal bars run along the courses and stand a little proud at every step, so both edges are dotted with small bright points. The stepped edges are left crisp: easing them would blur the staircase into an approximation.
Because the blocks are clear, the light beneath the crescent and whatever stands behind it become the piece. On its base the strip lifts the belly into a warm glow, best seen in a dim room or against a dark wall; set without the base, it wants a dark stone top, a length of walnut or a black tray under it to give the steps something to read against, while a white surface loses them completely. A console, a sideboard or a long cabinet top suits it, seen from the front. Light from behind or below is what makes the joints and steps come alive; frontal light passes straight through and the crescent almost disappears. Keep it out of a walkway, since the high horn ends in fine steps.
Time separates the two: a bespoke commission takes 5–6 weeks, a standard piece 3–4. The crescent comes on its base of metal, which carries the light strip along its top, and it is also offered without the base, as the crescent alone. Tint is settled at order in this clear, a smoke, a blue or an amber, and the block size can be coarsened for a heavier staircase or refined until the steps almost vanish. To lift it, put a hand beneath each haunch and leave the high horn alone. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
Stepped blocks stay with indoor sculpture while they stay clean, with acrylic sculpture by material, and with abstract sculpture because a stair is not a curve.

Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.
Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
