Clear Band Back Acrylic Armchair with Taupe Cushion - 83cm
Clear Band Back Acrylic Armchair with Taupe Cushion - 83cm $3,57500
Description

Two flat clear panels stand as the sides of this acrylic armchair, and a single wide band of the same material curves between them at the top to serve as back and both arms at once. A thick cushion in a soft taupe sits on rails between the panels, deep enough to read as the only comfortable thing on an otherwise hard object, which is the contrast the design is built on.

A Wide Band Curved Between Two Flat Panels

The band is the piece of work. It has to hold one continuous radius from one side panel to the other while staying the same width along its whole length, and because it meets each panel at a right angle the two ends must arrive square to a surface that is itself perfectly flat. Any twist in the band shows as a gap at one end, and a gap on a colourless butt joint cannot be filled. The panels are selected for flatness, since a large flat clear sheet with any waviness in it distorts everything seen through the chair. All arrises are polished, including the ones facing inward where a sitter's arm falls. The cushion is filled to sit proud of the rails rather than flush with them.

The chair is broad and low-backed, so it reads horizontally and suits a wall where a tall chair would break the line: behind a sofa, in a bay, in an office where a visitor's chair should not dominate. The two flat side panels act as mirrors from an angle, which means whatever stands beside the chair appears in it, so give it a plain neighbour. The taupe cushion is the only thing holding the chair to a colour scheme. Keep the floor level, as two flat panels sit on their full length rather than on feet.

Cushion Choice, Band Height and What Assembles

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. Cushion fabric and colour are chosen from a range, and a leather cushion is available where the weave is too soft. The band can be set higher for more back support, or taken wider. A tint is available in either the band or the panels, and the two need not match. Panel thickness can be increased for a heavier read. The chair travels as three parts, two panels and a band, bonded on arrival along the band ends, so nothing arrives at full width. Each panel is a two-person lift since a flat sheet is awkward rather than heavy. The cushion is bagged separately and dropped in last. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A wide band curved between two flat panels belongs with our acrylic sculptures; a soft taupe cushion on a hard clear frame leads to our art furniture, and a visitor's chair for a quiet office joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
