Clear & Yellow Open Sphere Acrylic Lounge Chair - 132cm
Clear & Yellow Open Sphere Acrylic Lounge Chair - 132cm $4,11800
Description

A lounge chair in the form of an open sphere: a large shell of clear acrylic, cut away at the front, with a yellow upholstered cushion filling the bottom half inside. Two white spherical pods sit on the outside of the shell at either side, level with the head, and the whole sphere is raised on a slim polished pedestal that stands on a round disc foot.

A Clear Sphere to Sit Inside

The appeal of a chair like this is enclosure: you sit inside the form rather than on it, and a clear shell keeps that enclosure from feeling closed in. The acrylic is kept free of seams and frames so the sphere reads as one clean curve, and the opening is cut generously so that sitting down and rising again are easy. The yellow cushion is the only strong colour, and inside the clear shell it glows like the yolk of the form. The white pods are pure geometry, spheres on a sphere, and they give the silhouette its ears.

It suits a living room, a reading corner, a hotel lounge or a reception, somewhere it can be seen all round, since it is as much an object as a seat. Give it floor space with a window beyond it: there the clear shell almost disappears and the yellow seems to float. A lamp beside it for reading turns it into a room within a room. From across a room it is a bright circle; close to, the cushion invites you in.

Cushion Colour, Shell and Delivery

Set aside 3–4 weeks for a standard piece and 5–6 weeks for a bespoke commission. The cushion can be upholstered in another colour or cover, the shell made in a tinted acrylic as well as clear, and the pods finished in another colour or left off for a plainer silhouette. A dark cushion inside a clear shell makes the sphere read as a frame. It is delivered in a large crate with the shell protected, and two people unpack it and carry it into place. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear sphere with a yellow lining belongs with our art furniture; white pods on a polished pedestal lead to our contemporary and modern sculptures, and a reading seat for a lounge joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
