Description

A Chinese guardian lion sits upright with a tightly curled mane, an ornate collar carrying a bell and a dragon-mask pendant, and one forepaw resting on an embroidered ball. Beneath it is a two-tier plinth, the upper block set with a diagonal lattice panel inside a key-fret border and a triangular apron, over a moulded base with scroll bands.

Guardian Lion With a Dragon Mask Collar

The dragon mask on the collar is the smallest thing on the piece and the hardest. It hangs proud of the chest on a strap barely a finger wide, and because it sits directly under the jaw there is no room to swing a chisel once the head is finished, so it is cut before the mane above it is dressed down. The lattice on the plinth is pierced only to a shallow depth rather than cut through, which keeps the block solid under the weight of the lion.

A single guardian lion works where a pair would crowd: one side of a doorway, the head of a flight of steps, a courtyard corner or the turn of a drive. Facing inward toward the approach is the traditional placing rather than outward at the street. At this height it reads from a distance and needs no planting round it. Set the base on a level compacted bed with clear ground on all sides.

Siting a Single Lion Rather Than a Pair

Fourteen weeks. The plinth is cut and its lattice worked before the lion is begun, because the figure is measured off the finished cap and a plinth altered afterwards would leave the beast sitting proud of it. The collar and its dragon mask are cut before the mane is dressed down over them. The ball under the paw is undercut last. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops. Around 3,403kg in two pieces, craned into position and bedded onto a prepared concrete pad.

Every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of destination.

  • Sculptures under 50cm — shipped by air freight. Typical delivery 1–2 weeks after production is complete.
  • Sculptures 50cm and above — shipped by sea freight. Typical delivery 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

For larger sculptures where faster delivery is needed, air freight is available at additional cost — contact us before ordering for a quote.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

30-Day Returns

We accept 30-day returns on sculptures in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

To start a return, contact us within 30 days of receipt. Return shipping for change-of-mind returns is at the customer's cost.

Bespoke and custom-commissioned pieces are non-refundable once production has started, as they are made specifically to your specification.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
