Blue Iridescent Stacked Sphere Glass Sculpture - 44cm, a deep blue stacked double sphere with a paler aqua orb beside it, iridescent finish, on a plain white background.
Blue Iridescent Stacked Sphere Glass Sculpture - 44cm $2,58200
Description

This glass sculpture is sold as a set of two pieces: a stacked pair, a large sphere with a second one seated on its crown, and a single sphere to stand beside it. The large sphere is a deep, saturated blue, while the sphere on its crown and the single one are a paler aqua blue, and all three carry an iridescent film that throws green, gold and violet across their curves. Each sphere is cut flat where it sits, the upper one on the crown of the large sphere and the other two on the surface below. The two pieces are supplied together and are meant to be arranged rather than fixed: the single sphere sits wherever it looks right beside the stack.

Deep Blue Glass and the Film Over It

Two spheres seated on one another asks more of the work than anyone expects, and the difficulty is the contact. Glass is unhappy meeting glass at a point, so the seat has to be ground into the crown of the standing body and the underside of the one above it until the two agree over an area rather than a spot, and then both surfaces are matched so no light shows between them. Get that wrong and the upper sphere leans, which the eye reads instantly on a shape this regular. The colour is in the glass rather than on it: the large sphere is a deep blue right through and the other two a paler aqua, so the set carries two blues before any film goes on. The iridescent film goes on last over a surface already brought to a full polish, and it is laid so the shift runs the same way on all three spheres.

At 44cm the stacked pair suits a sideboard or a console: it wants a surface at hip or chest height where the top sphere comes near the eye, and it needs some clear surface beside it so the single sphere can be set apart rather than tucked in. Keep it away from an edge people pass close to. Glass at this weight does not forgive a knock and the seated joint is the part that would take it. Window light suits it better than a downlight, which catches the crown of each body and leaves everything under it dark. Against a pale wall the blue reads as ink; against a dark one the film does the work.

A Set of Two Pieces and How It Is Handled

From order, a standard piece runs to 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission to 5–6. Colour is open: these two blues, a green or a smoke grey, or clear glass coloured only by its film. The film can be left off for a plain polished set. The number of bodies is settled at order and so is their grading, so a stack of more bodies or a wider spread of small spheres are both possible from the same design. Sizes run in both directions. The stack is lifted by cupping the large sphere from underneath, never by the sphere on its crown, which is not a handle, and the single sphere is taken up in both hands. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Three iridescent blue spheres in two pieces, one of them seated on the crown of another, lead on to our indoor sculptures, our contemporary and modern sculptures and our abstract sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
