Blue Gridded Tapered Cast Resin Counter Block (120cm) in turquoise with a square grid texture on all sides, tapering wider at the top, shown on a plain white background.
Blue Gridded Tapered Cast Resin Counter Block - 120cm $11,94800
Description

This counter block is one tapered mass of turquoise resin that broadens as it rises, and every face of it is cast as a close grid of little square blocks, like a wall of glass bricks. The top edge runs in a shallow curve rather than a straight line. Behind the grid the base is left hollow, which keeps a block of this bulk movable.

A Grid Cast Into Every Face of the Taper

The grid is cast, not applied, so every small block carries the same slight variation in the material and the surface catches light in rows rather than as a sheet. The base is hollowed out behind to a thin even wall, which is the decision that makes a mass on this scale possible to move at all. The taper is drawn in the mould and the four corners are worked by hand where the grid has to turn, because that is where a cast grid usually breaks its rhythm.

Its top stands at counter height, so it belongs in a reception area, a showroom, a gallery front desk or a studio, working as a counter block or a lectern rather than as furniture to sit at. It reads best lit from the side or from behind, where the grid picks up as rows of light, and it can stand free of a wall because every face is finished.

The Hollow Base, the Grid Pitch, and Counter Height

Bespoke commissions take 5–6 weeks; standard pieces take 3–4. The gridded face is the slow part. Three aspects can be specified. The grid can be cast at a coarser or a finer pitch, the wall thickness can be taken up where the block is to carry weight on its top, and the tint can be changed or dropped for a colourless version. Overall length and counter height are quoted to your own figures. For a matching group, how the grid meets the tapered corners is set once and carried through it. Nothing in the crate bears on the curved top edge or the grid corners, and four people put it in place. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Gridded like glass brick, this tapered block is shown with our geometric sculptures, works as a counter among our art furniture, and keeps company with our contemporary and modern sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
