Blue & Violet Faceted Gem on Marble Plinth - 168cm, a dichroic acrylic sculpture in blue, teal and violet on a tall black marble plinth, shown against a plain white background.
Blue & Violet Faceted Gem on Marble Plinth - 168cm $4,26300
Description

A faceted block of dichroic acrylic standing on a tall black marble plinth, and the plinth takes up more than half the height of the whole. That proportion is the design. The block does not sit on a base so much as continue out of a column, and the two read as one object rather than as a sculpture and its support. The planes return blue, teal and violet, and fine bright lines run through the body where the facet edges meet inside it.

A Block and a Plinth as One Object

A plinth that overtops the thing it carries is a decision that has to be got exactly right or it looks like a mistake. Too short and the block becomes an ornament on a box; too tall and the block becomes an afterthought on a column. What matters is where the block's widest point falls against a standing viewer, and on this one it falls high, in the upper half of the block, with the sloping crown above it. The plinth is a plain square column, black and unadorned and a little broader than the block, so the block's narrower foot stands well inside its top and nothing in the stone competes with the planes.

At 168cm this one belongs on the floor, and the position it wants is one where the block arrives at eye level from across a room: a stair head, a wide landing, or the far end of a long space. It should not go against a busy wall: the block's internal lines are fine and a patterned paper behind them turns them into noise. Give it light with some spread, since a coating this cool needs a broad source to move through its range. And give it a hard level floor: the marble is heavy and a soft surface lets a tall plinth settle, which a vertical this plain reports immediately.

Plinth, Coating and Setting It Level

In the workshop a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. The plinth is the main variable. Black marble is the standard, with white or grey marble as the alternatives, and the plinth's height is set to carry the block to the level the room needs: shallow for a seated view, deep for a hall. The coating comes as this blue-and-violet run, a warm amber, a green shift or nothing at all. The cut is drawn per piece. Stand the plinth level before the block goes onto it, and set the block down by two opposite planes, never by an edge. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Block and plinth read as one object here, which puts the pair in geometric sculpture, draws the body from acrylic sculpture, and settles the whole among indoor sculpture.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
