Blue & Silver Blockwork Crescent Moon Acrylic Sculpture, 75cm, with clear and pale blue acrylic blocks massed around a thin metal ring on a plain white background.
Blue & Silver Blockwork Crescent Moon Acrylic Sculpture - 75cm $7,06900
Description

An acrylic sculpture hung on a circle of thin bright metal standing on edge, with rectangular blocks of clear and pale blue massed against its outer edge and gathered into a flat foot beneath it. The blocks are heaviest and deepest through rather more than half the turn and then thin away to nothing, so what is a complete circle reads as a crescent. They stand at different depths within a shallow envelope, every one of them set square, and the ring passes in front of some and behind others. The piece is shallow from front to back, so from the side it almost disappears and from the front it is entirely about the contrast between the true curve and the disorder hung on it.

A True Ring Against Blocks That Are Not

The whole effect rests on the ring being genuinely true, and a thin metal circle of this diameter does not want to be. Any flat spot or slight oval would read at once against the deliberate randomness of the blocks: the eye forgives a block out of line and will not forgive a circle that is not circular. The blocks are then placed rather than patterned. Each sits square at its own depth, and the distribution has to look casual while actually being weighted, since the mass is gathered down one side and along the foot, and the blocks at the foot are what the whole piece stands on. The ring is polished to a mirror, so it reads as one continuous bright line through the mass of blocks.

At 75cm this reads as a picture rather than as a mass, and it wants to be met head-on, the ring at about the height of the eye: a broad shelf, a sideboard, or a plinth against a wall. It is a poor centrepiece, because from the ends it is nearly invisible. Give it a plain, fairly dark background if you can. The blocks are clear and pale, and against a white wall they lose their edges, while a deep wall colour or a shadowed alcove makes them read as ice. Light from one side rather than the front is what separates the blocks from each other and keeps the crescent legible.

Blocks, Balance and How It Is Carried

Ordinarily a standard piece needs 3–4 weeks and a bespoke commission 5–6. What can be changed is the balance of the thing: how far round the blocks run, how heavily they mass, and whether the crescent opens left or right. The tint is chosen with the order from this pale blue and clear mix, a colourless set, a smoke or a warm amber, and the ring comes in this bright finish, a dark bronze tone or a black. Carry it by the ring at its bare side with a hand under the blocks of the foot, never by a single block. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Clear blocks massed in a crescent round a bright metal ring, it sits among our abstract sculptures, our acrylic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
