Blue & Clear Waisted Column Resin Sculpture - 59cm, a twisting hourglass-shaped form with fine linear detailing on a black block base, set against a plain light background.
Blue & Clear Waisted Column Resin Sculpture - 59cm $1,55300
Description

A slender column drawn in at the waist and opening again toward the crown, with fine lines cut down its whole length. Blue at the crown and again at the foot, clearing through the waist, with fine drawn lines following the whole length. A black block is supplied under the column, and it stands squarely on it.

Lines That Measure a Graduation

Fine drawn lines down a graduated column mark the run at fixed intervals, which is a thing a smooth body has no way of doing. A colour run through a smooth body has nothing to be measured against, so the eye reads it as a blur. Cutting fine lines down the length marks the run at fixed intervals and turns a gradient into something countable. Drawing fine lines into a body that changes colour along its length means the lines are read at a different tone all the way along, and the graduation is measured by them rather than guessed at. Polished over the whole column, with the drawn lines left as cut so they hold a shadow.

It suits a narrow shelf or the end of a console, since the footprint is about the size of a hand. A pale ground behind it, so the lines read as lines rather than as reflections. Light raking across the drawn lines turns each one into a thread; square on, none of them shows. The colour change carries from across a room and the lines are entirely a near fact.

Opening the Pitch, and One Crate

Every standard piece is made in 3–4 weeks, and every bespoke commission in 5–6. The line pitch can be opened, the clear waist can be widened or closed, and the piece is cut at other lengths. Close the clear waist and the column reads as one blue length, which changes where the eye stops. One crate, the block at the bottom of it, and nothing at all to fix. One person and both hands. It is slender enough to want carrying by the block. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A waisted column drawn with fine lines stands in our indoor sculptures; its exact, spare lines suit our contemporary and modern sculptures, and the tinted column joins our resin sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
