Blue & Amber Faceted Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 85cm
Blue & Amber Faceted Gem Acrylic Sculpture - 85cm $3,79000
Description

An acrylic sculpture cut as an upright block of roughly twenty flat faces, wider at the shoulder than at the foot. The faces are shallow rather than sharp, so the form reads as a boulder brought to a gem cut rather than as a crystal. It carries a dichroic surface, which means it has no one colour: the front and top planes return cyan, the left flank returns amber and a deeper red where the surface is seen almost edge-on, and a band across the bottom few centimetres goes pale gold. Every face also passes some light, so there is a second, dimmer version of all of it inside the block.

A Block With No Single Colour

A dichroic surface is a stack of extremely thin coatings that reflects one part of the spectrum and passes the rest, which is why the colour depends on the angle you stand at rather than on any pigment. On a faceted object that becomes a design problem instead of a finish: each face stands at its own angle, so each returns its own colour, and the arrangement of the faces IS the arrangement of the colours. The cut is therefore decided with the coating in mind and not before it. The faces themselves are worked one at a time to a full polish, because a coating shows every flaw beneath it as a dull streak, and the edges between them are left crisp rather than eased, since a rounded edge blurs one colour into the next and loses the whole effect.

At eighty-five centimetres this is floor-standing or low-plinth work rather than a shelf object, and it should be placed where you can walk around it, because standing still in front of it shows perhaps a third of what it does. It suits a hall, a landing, the far end of a glazed run or the corner of a large room. Give it daylight if you can. A dichroic surface needs a broad, changing light source to move through its range, and a single fixed spot pins it to one colour permanently. Keep it clear of a doorway line: the faces are crisp-edged and shins find them.

Facets, Height and Standing It Safely

The standard build is 3–4 weeks and the bespoke build 5–6. The coating is chosen at order and it decides everything: this cyan-to-amber set, a magenta and green shift, a gold, or a plain polished block with no coating at all. The cut is drawn per piece, so the number of faces and how sharp they are can both be changed, and the block can be tinted through as well as coated. Heights run from a desk piece to something above head height. Moved, it stays upright, held at the shoulder and the foot and never laid on a flank, because grit under a coated face would mark it for good. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

An upright gem of cut dichroic planes, cyan at the front and amber down its flank, is found among our geometric sculptures, our acrylic sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
