Black Suspended Loop Case Acrylic Sculpture - 131cm, clear acrylic case with dense black looped strands hanging from the top, on a white pedestal against a plain light background.
Black Suspended Loop Case Acrylic Sculpture - 131cm $6,38900
Description

A sculpture in clear acrylic: a square case holding a mass of fine black loops that hangs from the underside of its top and stops well short of the floor of the case. The loops are dense where they leave the top, matted almost into a single dark sheet, and separate as they fall until the lowest hang apart in looped points with space around them. Because the case is closed, nothing moves: what would be a curtain in a draught is held exactly where it was left. It stands on a tall pale metal base the same width as the case.

Black Loops Hanging in Still Air

The case is not a vitrine put round a sculpture; it is the reason the sculpture exists in that shape. Loops this fine hold the shape they were hung in only because nothing can reach them, and the box then has to be good enough to look through without noticing it: optically clean acrylic, corners closed along their full length, and a top that carries the whole hanging mass on a few small fixings along its edge. The point at which the loops begin to separate is chosen rather than allowed to happen: too high and the mass looks thin, too low and it looks like a block. Here it holds together for about half the depth of the case and then breaks into looped points, the longest stopping well short of the floor.

Overall it stands at 131cm on its own base and needs floor rather than a surface: the end of a hall, an alcove, a landing, or a corner of a room where it can be come upon rather than displayed. It should be seen against a light wall, since what hangs inside is black and disappears against anything dark. Light from the front and slightly to one side separates the strands at the bottom; a downlight lights the top of the mass and turns the rest into a shadow. Keep it out of a route where it will be brushed past, because a case this clean shows every mark on it.

Case, Base and Lifting the Case

Give it 3–4 weeks as a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks as a bespoke commission. What hangs inside is chosen at order: the loops can be hung denser or more open, in this black or in a pale finish against a dark base for the reverse reading. The height at which the mass begins to separate is drawn per piece, and the case can be made deeper for a longer fall or shallower for a denser one. The base comes in this pale finish or in black, and it can be made to whatever height brings the case to the eye level the room wants. The case is lifted by the corners at its foot with the top left unloaded, since the top carries everything that hangs inside. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

A clear case holding a hanging mass of black loops on a tall pale base, it belongs among our acrylic sculptures, our metal sculptures and our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For all orders delivered worldwide, all customs duties, import taxes, and applicable local clearance fees are fully included in the purchase price. We manage and settle these charges on your behalf, ensuring you will not incur any additional fees upon arrival.

Please note that this policy excludes shipments delivered to Switzerland, as well as any individual orders where an exclusion is explicitly stated prior to purchase; in such instances, local customs charges and import taxes remain the responsibility of the customer.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
