Amber Traditional Horseshoe Acrylic Armchair, 94cm, in translucent amber with scrolled arms, shaped splat, and stretcher base, shown on a plain white background.
Amber Traditional Horseshoe Acrylic Armchair - 94cm $5,13000
Description

An armchair in translucent amber acrylic. Unlike a stripped version of this form, it keeps every member of the traditional pattern: a crest rail sweeping from the back into scrolled arm ends, a shaped splat down the centre of the back, a moulded apron under the seat, stretchers along both sides and a plain footrail across the front. Every member carries the same amber.

The Full Traditional Pattern, Cast in Amber

Every member here would be a separate piece of timber in the original and every one is a separate piece of acrylic. The crest rail is formed over a jig; the scrolled arm ends are worked up individually because a scroll cannot be pulled from a straight mould; the splat is cut flat and then shaped on both faces; the apron carries a moulding along its bottom edge that is cut, not cast. In a translucent amber a joint shows unless it is brought up to the same clarity as the members it meets, and that is where the hours go. The colour is in the material, deepening where two members overlap at a joint - which is why the frame looks darkest exactly where it is strongest.

It is broad and wants floor around it: at the head of a dining table, or alone against a wall in a hall, where it holds its own as a single piece. The amber is warm and will sit with wood, brass and stone rather than against them. Backlight it if you can - light coming through the frame from behind turns the whole chair the colour of the material, and light falling on it from the front does not.

The Amber Depth, the Members, and Getting It Home

Once ordered, a standard piece takes 3–4 weeks and a bespoke one 5–6. The amber can be run paler or pushed toward brown, and the frame can be made up in a clear acrylic if you want the pattern without the colour. The apron moulding can be left off for a plainer line. The chair is priced singly. It arrives assembled, since the welded joints are what hold the pattern together, and it makes a wide crate that cannot be angled through a narrow doorway, so measure each door on the way in. Two people are wanted to bring it in. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

The full horseshoe pattern rendered in amber goes with our indoor sculptures; a scrolled crest over a carved apron carries on into our art furniture, and a warm chair for the head of a table joins our acrylic sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
