Amber Stepped Flat Cut Mass Resin Sculpture - 52cm, faceted amber form shifting from golden to deep amber tones, set on a black marble base, plain light background.
Amber Stepped Flat Cut Mass Resin Sculpture - 52cm $2,56400
Description

An amber mass cut into flats that step round it. The amber is golden at the crown and deepens toward the foot, and because each flat holds one value of that gradient the colour arrives as a sequence of steps rather than as a wash. The black marble beneath it comes with the piece.

Flats Cut So the Light Steps Round

A mass cut into flats is a decision about how many. Too few and the piece reads as a rough block with the corners knocked off; too many and it becomes a faceted gem, which is a different object altogether and one that looks machined. The count here is set so that each face is wide enough to hold a single tone of the amber and no more. That matters because the colour is graded through the body: a face that spans too much of the height catches both the gold at the crown and the deep tone at the foot, and the gradient shows up as a smear across it rather than as a step between one face and the next. Cut at this count the piece does what it is for, which is to turn a smooth gradient into a staircase. Each face takes one value, the value changes as the faces step round, and the eye reads the colour as a sequence rather than as a wash.

At 52cm it belongs on a table or console, not on the floor, and it is meant to be walked past rather than met head on: the whole effect is the flats changing value as the angle changes, which needs movement to happen. A surface in a route through a room does more for it than an alcove. Point light works better than diffuse, since a single source gives each face its own brightness and an even wash gives them all the same one.

The Flats, the Amber, and Delivery

Reckon on 3–4 weeks for a standard piece, or 5–6 weeks for a bespoke one. The flats are cut broader or more of them, the body is deepened toward brown, and the stone is made at other sizes. The count and breadth of the flats are the main variable and are drawn either way on request. A frosted finish is offered and suits the stepped cut, since frosting makes each face hold its own tone instead of passing light to the next one. The casting is also produced at other heights on this stone. One crate holds both, the casting bedded on its broadest flat rather than on the foot and the stone boxed apart; the casting can be moved by one person and the stone wants two. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.

Flats stepped round a mass belong with our contemporary and modern sculptures; amber graded from gold to a deep foot leads to our resin sculptures, and a cut form whose faces brighten in turn joins our indoor sculptures.

Shipping & Returns

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.

Production Time

Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.

  • Standard sculptures: approximately 3–4 weeks from order confirmation.
  • Bespoke commissions (custom sizes, finishes, or fully custom designs): approximately 5–6 weeks from design sign-off.

Production time is separate from delivery time.

Free Worldwide Shipping

Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.

Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.

All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.

Delivery to Your Address

Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.

For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.

Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.

International Orders & Customs

For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.

If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.

Returns

Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.

To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.

Damage in Transit

Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:

  1. Report the damage within 48 hours of delivery.
  2. Provide clear photographs of both the damage and the packaging.
  3. We arrange collection and either replacement or full refund at no cost to you.

Lifetime Guarantee

Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.

This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
