The figure is seated with the legs together and hanging, the back straight, the arms held close, and it has no head at all. Where the neck would carry one, the form breaks upward into a cluster of separate spheres of several sizes, rising and thinning as they go. Everything is a translucent amber, deep where the material gathers at the hips and honey through the ribs and the arms.
A cluster of separate spheres is drawn by its gaps. Each sphere has to touch its neighbours at a point rather than merge with them, and the spaces between them are what make the mass read as a cluster instead of a lump, so the contacts are cut back by hand after the spheres are formed and each one is polished right round through the gap on either side. That is slow work with shaped tools in spaces a finger will not enter. The figure below is the opposite job: a long uninterrupted run of curves with nothing on it, where any flat spot breaks the highlight. Five abrasive grades and a compound take it to that finish, and the shoulders are the last thing done because the cluster above blocks the tools once it is in place.
A seated figure wants a surface at knee height or the floor, so a hearth, a low plinth, a broad step or the floor beside a chair all read correctly and a table does not. It is met from the front, where the cluster rises clear of the shoulders; from behind it reads as a back and a mass. Translucent amber is at its best with light behind or beside it, when the spheres light up one at a time as you move. Against a pale wall the whole silhouette reads; against a warm one the colour is lost.
Our workshops take 3–4 weeks over a standard piece and 5–6 over a bespoke commission. Cluster size is set at order, from this rising mass to a handful of spheres or a dense crown, and the sphere sizes can be evened out or varied further. The amber runs to a rose, a green, a smoke or a colourless body, and an opaque finish is made where a solid colour is wanted. A standing pose can be made to order. Any scale is cut to order. The crate holds it seated with the cluster packed clear of the box wall and nothing needs fitting; two people set it down, hands at the hips. Our main studios are in the UK (Birmingham) and Dubai, with additional global workshops.
A seated figure in translucent amber belongs with our abstract sculptures; a cluster of spheres in place of a head leads to our contemporary and modern sculptures, and amber deepening at the hips joins our resin sculptures.

Almost every sculpture at Giant Sculptures is handmade to order, then shipped worldwide free of charge. Below is everything you need to know before you order, and what to expect after.
Almost every sculpture is handmade to order by our artisans — we do not mass-produce.
Production time is separate from delivery time.
Shipping is free worldwide on every sculpture, regardless of size or destination. Standard delivery is by sea freight, typically 6–8 weeks after production is complete.
Express air freight is available on request at additional cost, with delivery in up to 10 days. Ask us before placing your order, or straight after, and we will confirm the cost for your destination.
All sculptures ship in reinforced protective crating, fully insured to purchase value.
Delivery is to the door or curbside at your shipping address.
For larger sculptures shipped by sea freight, the carrier will contact you in advance to arrange a delivery window. Please ensure someone is available to accept the delivery and that the property has suitable access for the size of the piece.
Once the sculpture arrives, you are responsible for positioning it in its final display location. For larger or heavier pieces, we recommend arranging two people (family, friends, or a local moving service) to help with placement.
For orders shipping outside the United Kingdom, any customs duties, import taxes, or local fees at your destination country are the responsibility of the customer. These charges are set by your local authority and are not included in our shipping cost.
If you have questions about customs for your specific country, contact us before ordering and we can advise on typical charges for your region.
Where an order qualifies, we accept returns within 14 days of receipt, in original condition and original packaging, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
Because our sculptures are made individually, most orders do not qualify. Returns do not apply to any item that is not held in stock, is made to order, or is custom or bespoke.
To check whether your order qualifies, contact us within 14 days of receipt. On a qualifying return, return shipping is at the customer's cost, a 25% restocking fee applies, and original shipping charges are not refunded.
Every sculpture ships fully insured. In the unlikely event of damage during transit:
Every sculpture carries a lifetime guarantee against finish defects under normal display conditions, subject to our Terms & Conditions.
This covers manufacturing defects, premature finish degradation, and structural failures under normal display. It does not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, inappropriate environments (for example, an indoor-only sculpture placed outdoors), or modifications made after delivery.
If you have questions about shipping, customs, delivery timing, or anything else before you order, our team is here to help. Contact us via WhatsApp, email, or phone, and we'll respond within 24 hours.
